So, you’ve noticed Fido’s breath is starting to wreak and perhaps he has a bit of tartar – it’s time to book an appointment for a teeth cleaning! However, you may be reluctant to book a treatment that involves your dog undergoing anesthesia. Whether you have a pup or a senior pet, it can be stressful to put your dog or cat under – however, now you don’t have to!

At all four of our Puff & Fluff locations, we offer anesthesia-free teeth cleaning every three months or so. In fact, we work with a great vet, who performs anesthesia-free cleanings at our shops for both dogs AND cats! Have questions? We have the answers! Below are five facts about anesthesia-free teeth cleanings for your pets:

1. Anesthesia-Free Cleanings Are Easier on Your Wallet
If you have a pet, you’ve probably inquired about teeth cleanings at your vet’s office. The price for one animal alone can easily range from $250-600. The high pricing takes into account any blood work taken, anesthesia given, and other factors. While it may be necessary for some to get teeth cleanings done at the vet, most folks simply can’t afford the treatment. Here at Puff & Fluff, the cost to have the vet work on your pet is $165 for a pet under 50 lbs and $190 for pets that weigh over 50 lbs.

2. Pets Are Examined Before the Procedure
You may be wondering how exactly these vets works on cleaning your pet’s teeth without first administering anesthesia. Well, the vet will first check your pet’s vitals before any work is done. He makes sure that your furry friend can be treated right then and there. In rare cases, The vet has turned away clients’ pets whose teeth were so far gone that they’d likely have to be extracted. However, in most cases, the vet tech will then take your pet, swaddling them in a towel or blanket. From there, the vet tech breathes calmly and softly into their noses and gets straight to work. Each pet that comes through, big or small, takes no longer than an hour.

3. Tooth Extractions Are Not Included
Of course, if we come across a tooth or two that looks like they’ll need to be extracted, we will absolutely not do so without letting you know. If your pet is here for our anesthesia-free teeth cleaning and needs anything other than just that, we will contact you immediately to let you know. No extractions will happen without your prior knowledge. We are pet parents too and we give the same level of service we would expect as such!

4. Follow-Up Is Crucial
After your pet has had his or her teeth cleaned, the vet will give you a breakdown on the level of tartar, etc. You will then be given a recommended date for their next cleaning. The doctor is always happy to answer any and all of your questions after an appointment, so don’t be shy! We also sell a mouthrinse that you can spray into your pet’s mouth after their daily cleanings. The bottle and rinse sell for $15 and will ensure your pet’s mouth stays healthy before their next cleaning.

We look forward to taking care of your pet’s oral health. Stop into any one of our four locations today or book your next appointment online or by phone. We can’t wait to meet your beloved furry friends!
